Woody Allen began scouting Barcelona to find spots – among them La Sagrada Familia, a Catholic cathedral that has been under construction here for decades – to film scenes for his next movie.
Sources with the cathedral’s construction board told Efe that the filmmaker visited the structure designed by the late Antoni Gaudi, one of the Barcelona landmarks that will certainly appear in the film.
Although the film has no title as yet, it will tell the story of a U.S. tourist – Scarlett Johansson – on vacation in Barcelona and the relationships she strikes up with some of the local residents, notably one played by Spanish actor Javier Bardem.
Allen went to the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) without any prior announcement accompanied by a small film production team.
According to the sources consulted, the visit lasted about 15 minutes during which the director closely examined the modernistic basilica.
Allen left the site to look for other characteristic Barcelona locations to use in his film, a task that his production team will be working on for several weeks.
Several boutiques along the central Gracia avenue that have been preselected to appear in the film are awaiting a visit by Allen so that they can confirm to him that they will participate in the filming starting in July.
Also starring in Allen’s film will be Penelope Cruz and Rebecca Hall.
