Eva Mendes chatted to IESB.net about The Spirit and working with Scarlett Johansson on My Brother the Pig:

Q: What about The Spirit? Are you… Sand Saref?

EVA: The Spirit? I’m Sand Saref! I start that in just a couple weeks! Yeah.

Q: So are you reading that old comic strip?

EVA: Yeah, I have some. Frank Miller gave me some of the old comics. And I’m excited because I’ve never actually played, like, a real Femme Fatal. And this woman is just, you know, she is just, she would eat you for breakfast. So yeah, I know, it’s kinda fun!

Q: What can you say about your costume?

EVA: Right now we are thinking a very old-meets-new, Rita-Hayward-ish kinda hair. We have a forties feel to some of the outfits and stuff but obviously modernizing Frank Miller’s, you know, lovely insanity. So it will be a nice little mix. But you, that’s what we’re thinking now, and that can at least change once we’re there, it usually does.

Things have been pretty quiet in the world of Scarlett recently. She is probably still working on He’s Just Not That Into You and getting prepared for The Spirit, which starts filming next month.

Meanwhile, I’ve added a gorgeous new layout to the video archive. It was designed by Kat and coded by Mycah. I also uploaded some gorgeous fan art pieces to the fan archive. These include icons by ScarlettSkies and art by roseofstone, Lucy and Sholdina.

Thanks so much to all the contributors!

Sarah Paulson has joined the cast of Will Eisner’s The Spirit, comic auteur Frank Miller’s directorial effort featuring the classic comic strip character.

Paulson (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) joins leading ladies Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson in the film noir about a rookie cop (Gabriel Macht), who returns from the dead to fight crime as the Spirit from the shadows of Central City.

However, while Mendes and Johansson are playing femmes fatales, Paulson is playing the hero’s true love, Dr. Ellen Dolan, the police commissioner’s daughter. Samuel L. Jackson will play the villainous Octopus.

Also joining the cast are Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi.

Lauria (ABC’s miniseries The Path to 9/11) is playing the police commissioner, while Katic (Feast of Love) is a rookie cop. Simmons (Evan Almighty) plays a young Denny Colt, while Lombardi (Fox’s 24) will play Phobos, a henchman for the Octopus.

Production will begin in October in New Mexico. Lionsgate is scheduled to release the film domestically in 2009.

Annu has found some great scoop regarding Scarlett’s upcoming album.

According to this article the album will be released October 7 in the US and in Australia next year through Warner Music:

For almost a year, she has worked on an album of Tom Waits covers to be released on October 7 in the US and in Australia next year through Warner Music.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Tom Waits,” she says. “And I had this golden opportunity to make an album however I wanted. I see Tom Waits as being a composer of modern standards, so it seemed appropriate that I could interpret his songs. Obviously, it’s not an album where I’m trying to sound like him. That would be impossible. He writes such beautiful songs and incredible melodies, and they’re so cinematic and open-ended, so I felt it would be something that I could be inspired by.”

And if you check out Play.com, they’ve listed an album titled “Anywhere I Lay My Head” by Scarlett ‘Johanssen’ to be released March 3, 2008. For more information and how to pre-order, click here.

Thanks again for the information, Annu!

Scarlett Johansson, alongside such celebrities as Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Mariah Carey, Drew Barrymore, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Gisele Bundchen, Jamie Dornan and Selma Blair, will appear nude in the new issue of Visionare magazine. They will all be shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the issue titled “Private”.

The limited edition (2,500 copies) issue will be released in early October and will cost a hefty $375.

Edit: A number of fans have kindly emailed me saying that they would be interested in participating to the costs of the magazine to get one scanned for the site. I hate to ask but I am a student and there is no way that I’d be able to afford $375 by myself. If you’d be interested in contributing to the costs of the magazine, please email me at riikka@scarlett-fan.com stating how much you’d be able to send in. If there are enough contributors, I will set up a PayPal account for the magazine.

Again, thank you so much to everyone who were kind enough to suggest this! It is much appreciated.
