The Weinstein Co. has picked up North American distribution rights to Woody Allen’s romantic comedy/drama Vicky Cristina Barcelona, starring Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson.

Patricia Clarkson, Kevin Dunn, Rebecca Hall and Chris Messina also star in the tale of Vicky and Christina (Hall and Johansson), two Americans vacationing in the title’s Spanish city, who become part of a chain of romances involving an artist (Bardem) and his nutty ex-wife (Cruz).

A steamy menage a trois sequence between Bardem, Cruz and Johansson was the talk of the American Film Market when it previewed in Santa Monica in November.

Check out this brand new article, where Scarlett talks about her recent “engagement”, USO tour and Heath Ledger’s death.

I know it is a little off-topic but I’d also like to take the moment to acknowledge the passing of this great actor. Heath has always been one of my favorites and his death has left me devastated. What a terrible loss. My heart truly goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in peace, Heath… You will be greatly missed.

Scarlett Johansson returned from the Persian Gulf with a whole lot of soldiers’ trinkets and a delusion of her own engagement — to Barack Obama.

“I am engaged … to Barack Obama,” Johansson joked in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. “My heart belongs to Barack, and that is who I am currently, finally, engaged to. Yes.”

Johansson, who showed her support for the Democratic presidential candidate at the Iowa caucus earlier this month, was really just deflecting a question about rumors she might be engaged (to actor-beau Ryan Reynolds).

The 23-year-old actress talked about the warm welcome she received while visiting troops stationed in the Persian Gulf last week. Johansson dropped by U.S. bases in Kuwait on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 as part of a USO tour in which she met about 3,500 men and women in uniform.

One of the more unusual albums to be conceived in recent years, actress Scarlett Johansson’s interpretations of Tom Waits songs, will hit stores this spring.

“Anywhere I Lay My Head” will be released May 20 via Rhino Entertainment’s Atco imprint. Johansson collaborated on the album with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Celebration’s Sean Antanaitis and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, who produced.

The track list sports 10 Waits covers and one original track, but full details have yet to be announced.

Johansson recorded the album over five weeks last spring at Dockside Studios in Maurice, La. Her prior music dalliances include singing the track “Summertime” for “Unexpected Dreams,” a 2006 charity album featuring film stars, and a surprise appearance with the Jesus & Mary Chain at last year’s Coachella festival.

If anyone has wondered what can make a battle hardened Marine act like a love-struck high-schooler, the answer is simple—a meet and greet with Scarlett Johansson.

The 23-year-old bombshell met with nearly 600 service members at Camp Buehring, Kuwait Jan. 20 during her five-day United Service Organizations (USO) tour to the Gulf region.

Hundreds of Marines and sailors from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit put on their best smiles as they waited anxiously to get a glimpse of the Hollywood actress.

“I’m a huge Scarlett fan,” said Lance Cpl. Nathan Long, a calibration technician with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 166 (REIN), 11th MEU. “When I found out she was coming, I couldn’t believe it. All I thought about was that I needed to meet her.”

A hush fell over the crowd as Johansson, wearing a pink sweater, knee-high boots and cherry-red lipstick, entered the USO. Long’s wait to meet her would end soon.

It used to be a night for greasy-haired blokes with guitars, but this year’s Brit Awards is all about lipstick, stilettos and posh frocks.

There’s a growing list of girls attending – and now I can reveal Scarlett Johansson will be adding some A-list glamour. The Lost In Translation actress has been confirmed to present an award and – more importantly – she has also been invited to perform at the bash on February 20.

Scarlett is recording an album of Tom Waits cover songs – (imaginatively) titled “Scarlett sings Tom Waits” – with Rhino Records in the US. So Brit Awards organisers are pulling out all the stops to persuade her to sing one of the tracks at London’s Earls Court. A ceremony insider said: “Scarlett has tentatively agreed to sing and is definitely presenting a Brit. It would be a real treat.”

[Note from Riikka: The album is actually titled “Anywhere I Lay My Head”]

Julia Roberts, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman were added to a star-filled Berlin Film Festival lineup on Friday that already includes the Rolling Stones, Martin Scorsese and Madonna.

The Berlinale, the first major European festival of the new year, rounded out its 26-film main programme with the final eight selections after it earlier picked Scorsese’s documentary on veteran British rock bank the Rolling Stones as its opener.
