Harry Potter star Emma Watson will replace Scarlett Johansson in Napoleon and Betsy. Scarlett will instead take the role of a producer alongside her mother Melanie Sloan.
Emma Watson is attached to star in Napoleon and Betsy, a period drama being written and directed by Benjamin Ross.
Watson will play Betsy Balcombe, a young, impetuous noblewoman trapped on the isolated British Isle of St. Helena who falls in love with Napoleon, who is in exile on the island.
Watson is filling the shoes recently vacated by Scarlett Johansson, who stepped aside as the part skewed younger.
Johansson is still producing, along with Alexandra Milchan, Melanie Sloan and Gilles Arondeau.
Watson, who just signed with WMA in all areas, is known for her role as Hermione Granger in Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter films, and is completing filming on the sixth installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
With filming of the last chapter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, scheduled to commence in early 2009, Watson hopes to shoot Napoleon and Betsy in the fall.
Watson recently starred in the BBC telefilm Ballet Shoes and additionally lends her voice to the role of Princess Pea in the animated film The Tale of Despereaux, which Universal releases this year. She continues to be repped by Markham and Froggatt in the UK.

It’s a pity that Scarlett wouldn’t play the role Betsy because she looks old. We wouldn’t get to see she play this lively character.
Olivier Martinez for Napoleon. I don’t want to see Betsy, Emma, in a romance with some old ugly dude. Olivier would make a perfect Napoleon. Just Google Olivier Martinez to see who he is. Scarlet being a producer should have a say in who Napoleon is and I think she would agree with me on Olivier as the perfect choice. He’s almost 40, the age Napoleon is during the film. He’s not very tall. His native tongue is French. He speaks fluent English with a very sexy French accent. The film will be a success if the two leading characters can act and look great at the same time. Plus with Olivier being Napoleon there would be no ewww factor seeing a younger woman with an older man.

It sounds really funny, that Scarlett is too old.She is 23!I think that she would play the role much better than Emma.Emma plays in a very unnatural way and i don’t like it very much. But she also looks very pretty.
