Michael Caine & Matthew McConaughey for Brilliant
23 September, 2008

MTV kind of found some news by accident when the Movie Blog’s Shawn Adler recently spoke to Sir Michael Caine, and the veteran actor told them he might be appearing in an adventure film with Scarlett Johansson. That film is actually a heist thriller called Brilliant, being produced by Relativity Media.

Michael Caine is without a doubt an international treasure, an actor in possession of a great and nearly endless talent. Bless him, the same cannot be said of his memory, which goes from spotty, to just plain wrong.

We’re going to give him the benefit of the doubt here (unlike with Batman 3 stuff. Did we mention that was wrong?) and assume this next bit of news is in the former camp, something that’s true even if he can’t recall the details.

Why? Mostly because it’s a doozy.

“I have ‘Harry Brown,’” the actor said of his elderly vigilante film. “Then I’ll probably do a film with Scarlett Johansson. I forget what it’s called. It’s an adventure film. I was told yesterday that they have Matthew McConaughey as the guy. I’ve got go home and read it again. It’s a heist adventure film.”

There you go. Breaking news that Scarlett Johansson and Matthew McConaughey are joining forces for what will likely become the most misspelled call sheet in history. (I always have to copy and paste both actors’ names from their imdb. This movie is one David Stathairn away from me never writing about it again, ever.)
