The actress, who attended President Barack Obama’s inauguration, is taking time off to figure out her next move.

We saw a lot of Scarlett Johansson in 2008: She had a critically acclaimed role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the lead in The Other Boleyn Girl and a supporting part in The Spirit. And the actress is already back on the big screen in February’s He’s Just Not That Into You.

She spoke with MTV News about attending President Barack Obama’s inauguration and who she’d like to work with on future projects. Though her visit to Washington, D.C., was unquestionably memorable, Johansson didn’t get the chance to see Obama in person. Still, she was happy just to be a face in the crowd.

“I barely got within thousands of feet. But it was just an amazing, amazing place to be,” she said. “There was such an incredible energy, really a brotherhood of man. There was such humanity there. It was an incredible historical moment. I’m happy to have been a part of it.”

For the first time in a long time, Johansson doesn’t have a bevy of projects lined up, and she wants to take the chance to relax and figure out her next move.

“It’s kind of the first time in a while that I don’t really know what I’m going to be doing,” she said. “But I directed a segment for [the short-film collection] New York, I Love You. That’s going to be coming out. I’m hoping to do more development, production and direction. Stuff like that.”

It’s not hard to imagine the actress stepping behind the camera, though she knows exactly who she’d like to work with on future films.

“I would love to work with Daniel Day-Lewis,” she said. “I would love to work with Tim Burton. I’m a huge Tim Burton fan.”
