Cinema Blend Scarlett & Natalie Interview
18 February, 2008

Check out a new interview with Scarlett and Natalie Portman, courtsesy of Cinema Blend.

“I found strengths in every character that I’ve played. Even if it is a vulnerable person or someone who’s easily manipulated, there are strengths to every personality. Even if I wasn’t looking for a girl power kind of role, maintaining integrity in a character is a positive thing for women to see. It’s inspiring for women of all ages.”

Johansson: I’m in Love With Obama!
26 January, 2008

Check out this brand new article, where Scarlett talks about her recent “engagement”, USO tour and Heath Ledger’s death.

I know it is a little off-topic but I’d also like to take the moment to acknowledge the passing of this great actor. Heath has always been one of my favorites and his death has left me devastated. What a terrible loss. My heart truly goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in peace, Heath… You will be greatly missed.

Scarlett Johansson returned from the Persian Gulf with a whole lot of soldiers’ trinkets and a delusion of her own engagement — to Barack Obama.

“I am engaged … to Barack Obama,” Johansson joked in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. “My heart belongs to Barack, and that is who I am currently, finally, engaged to. Yes.”

Johansson, who showed her support for the Democratic presidential candidate at the Iowa caucus earlier this month, was really just deflecting a question about rumors she might be engaged (to actor-beau Ryan Reynolds).

The 23-year-old actress talked about the warm welcome she received while visiting troops stationed in the Persian Gulf last week. Johansson dropped by U.S. bases in Kuwait on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 as part of a USO tour in which she met about 3,500 men and women in uniform.

New Articles & Conan Alert
26 August, 2007

I’ve added two new articles:

- Q&A: Scarlett Johansson (from Newsweek.com)
- Catching up with Scarlett Johansson (from ScrippsNews)

“I’m a confident young woman. I think along with that comes sexual confidence. But I don’t think that means I’m terribly frisky. I don’t objectify myself. But I like to celebrate my curves and girliness.”

Also, according to The Late Night TV Page, Scarlett is set to appear on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on Friday, August 31, 2007. Now, she is also supposed to be at the Venice Film Festival in Italy during that same day so I am a little confused. But I wanted to inform you anyway. If she does appear, we will have a video clip and caps of this.

Hollywood Enters the Era of Scarlett
22 August, 2007

I’ve added a wonderful new Scarlett article from USA Today. Be sure to read the full feature here. Here are some highlights that I’ve picked:

- Scarlett says her album will be released in October
- She says she feels a bit guilty about her upcoming album because it just fell in her lap. Warner Bros. reps heard her sing on Unexpected Dreams and offered her a contract
- She plans to go to Iraq this year with the USO to visit U.S. servicemen: “I get letters from guys my age and younger. I wanted to go in October, but it may be a little later”
- Natalie Portman on Scarlett: “She’s a spicy girl. She’s got wonderful energy. She’s very, very smart. She always says what she feels but always tactfully”
- She reads a lot of biographies of Old Hollywood talents and feels a lot of times like she was born in the wrong era
- She believes in rewarding herself after working hard and may take a road trip in the US after the filming wraps in Spain
- She is interested in going to Africa to do charity work

“I know how lucky I am,” she says. “I have friends. I’m doing what I want to do. I can travel. I also have an opportunity to make some sort of difference.”

Studio Gets Visit from A-list Johansson
13 July, 2007
When friends asked Steve and Wish Nails about their attractive guest, they said she was in a band from Sweden. When People magazine called about the same mysterious blonde, the Nails developed sudden amnesia.

But when that house guest is actress Scarlett Johansson, who Esquire Magazine named as the “Sexiest Woman Alive” in 2006, the secret can only last so long.

“The first thing she did was go downtown to a restaurant and she got recognized,” said Wish Nails. “It was a real drag because people were saying stuff to her like, ‘I don’t believe it’s you. Take off your glasses.’
“That was the last time she went out to eat. But the rest of the trips were to Wal-Mart and Albertsons. When I tell you she went to Wal-Mart and Albertsons, she went a lot.”

Wal-Mart, margaritas and music was the life for Johansson, who spent 33 days in Maurice recording here debut CD at Dockside Studio. Owned by Steve and Wish Nails, Dockside is a 12-acre recording complex hidden along the Vermilion River.

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 07/08 Campaign
24 May, 2007

For her sequel as the face of another Louis Vuitton campaign [third time, actually], Scarlett Johansson played a role with which she’s extremely familiar: movie star. Evoking at turns Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly, Johansson displays voluptuous glamour in the color-drenched fall spots, slated to break in August fashion magazines.

“In this one, she’s much more recognizable,” said Antoine Arnault, Vuitton’s communications director, who allowed that the actress is not always immediately identifiable in the current spring ads in her role as the French-coquette-on-a-swing.

Nevertheless, Arnault dubbed the current campaign a success. He noted that Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs “adores” Johansson and based his fall-winter collection for the house around her character in Girl With a Pearl Earring, the 2003 feature film about a peasant girl who becomes the model for 17th-century Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer’s most famous work.

The fall campaign, lensed by Vuitton regulars Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, plays up the painterly colors of the ready-to-wear. “It’s probably one of the most beautiful campaigns Mert and Marcus have ever shot,” Arnault said. “It’s a very iconic campaign.”

Scarlett Letters
22 March, 2007

“Creole? Really? How fascinating. So is there still that whole voodoo thing?”

The young waiter from the island of Mauritius stood tongue-tied in the dining room of the Spa Hotel in Kent, England, baffled by the movie star who was focused on his French accent instead of his list of Frenchified entrées—trout millefeuille and tenderloin en croute. He did not understand why his native dialect made her think of black magic, Mardi Gras, and dolls with pins.

“You know, voodoo? Witchcraft? Is that part of the culture?” Her voice lowered coaxingly. “You can tell us.”

Scarlett Johansson has a habit of talking forcefully and teasingly to strangers, charging past her own youth and soft, delectable looks to establish a beachhead of individuality. The waiter, the driver, an autograph-seeking fan, a man giving directions on the street…all are treated with the same kind of good-natured raillery.

Article on the Fashion Week
4 March, 2007

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson sparked a photographer frenzy at the Louis Vuitton show on Sunday, as designer Marc Jacobs took Paris fashion week to its final phase with shimmering, slim outfits.

Jacobs said his collection was a homage to Johannes Vermeer, calling the line “Girl with a monogrammed bag”, a play on words on Vermeer’s painting and the 2003 film Girl with a Pearl Earring on the Dutch painter, in which Johansson played a main character.

“I thought it was amazing,” the actress told reporters after the show in a giant tent in a courtyard of the Louvre museum.

“I thought it was beautiful. And I was really happy to see how wearable everything is,” she said, after Jacobs paraded out models in short leather jackets with asymmetric zips. Other girls wore A-line coats and dresses in all shades of blue.

“The colour palette was informed by paintings from Vermeer,” Jacobs said after the show. “What we set out to do was to .. keep a sense of romanticism and a sense of colour but to give them a force and a strength and to keep them modern.”
