Robert Downey Jr. talks Black Widow
5 August, 2009

There’s been several interviews with Robert posted after his appearance at Comic-Con.  Here is what he had to say about Scarlett’s character Black Widow:

Question: Is there a love triangle between Tony and Pepper, and Tony and the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson)?

Downey: We essentially started off saying it’s a love triangle, and then we realized that love triangle is done in these superhero movies, all the time. What we wanted to do was something just a little bit freakier than that, and I believe we have succeeded. Black Widow is a great character because she is not what she appears to be. It was a great opportunity. I don’t even know if it’s so much a love triangle. Pepper is exactly what she appears to be, except there’s a lot more going on under the surface, and that’s brought to bear, this time.

Comic-Con photos and interview
26 July, 2009

Over 60 new photos (mostly HQ) of Scarlett at Comic-Con have been added to the gallery.  I’m still searching my various sources so more could be added later.

Also, MoviesOnline posted a fantastic lengthy interview with Scarlett.  A short quote is below and you can view the interview in its entirety after the cut.

Question: There is no geek within you?

Scarlett Johansson: Certainly there is a major geek within me. Actually, just kind of right on the surface. When I saw the first one it was because my Mom called me and said ‘Did you see “Iron Man”?’ I was like ‘Iron Man’? ‘I would see it but it’s not really my kind of thing.’ I thought if my Mom is telling me to see ‘Iron Man’ it’s got to be great. It’s not like my Mom is a comic book fan. When I went to see it I was just so blown away. I had never seen anything like that before in this genre.

Scarlett wants to direct a feature
24 July, 2009

Scarlett Johansson wants to direct her own major movie soon.

She proudly showed off her directorial debut – These Vagabond’s Shoes – at the LA Shorts Fest 09, and she gushed: “It was exciting to be on that side of the camera.

“I’m hoping it will lead to a feature.”

The actress also described her first experience of directing as an “amuse-bouche”.

“I really got to work with the best of the best but in a really short and sweet kind of way. It was the perfect first taste,” she said.

And despite rising to fame in front of cameras, Scarlett confessed she’s hankered after trying out directing since she was a child.

“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do ever since I was probably 12 years old – it was very exciting for me to sample it,” she said.

I’ve added over 200 more photos of Scarlett at last night’s LA Shorts Fest including some from the Q&A session after the viewing.  Since my posting last night, I have also learned that Scarlett’s dress was designed by Prada.

Scarlett talks Mango
15 July, 2009

I look like a street, punky girl,” Scarlett Johansson tells me. “It’s that edgy Debbie-Harry- meets-Marianne-Faithfull look.”

Certainly the new images of Johansson for the autumn/winter 2009 Mango campaign, which hits the streets today, are a world away from the Scarlett that we’ve become used to.

Gone is the preppie, all-American girl of Lost in Translation, or the noir heroine of The Black Dahlia.

Johansson shot the ad campaign for the Spanish high-street fashion store with über-cool photographer Mario Sorrenti.

Hair styled in a tousled blonde bob, we see Scarlett wearing leather and leopardskin, super-skinny jeans and a black bra.

You wouldn’t mess with that girl. “She’s not a waif,” says Johansson proudly.

She takes over as the face of Mango from Penelope Cruz (who has fronted it for the past two years) and jokes she already knew a lot about the clothes from working with Cruz on Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona.

Comic-Con update
14 July, 2009

A couple days ago, I mentioned that there were some rumors floating around the internet that Scarlett would be at this year’s Comic-Con.  Well, the official site has the full schedule listed and the way I read it, Scarlett will not be attending.

4:00-5:00 Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment: Iron Man 2 Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel superhero Iron Man. Directed by Jon Favreau, Iron Man 2 stars Robert Downey Jr. Joining Downey in the cast are Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Jon Favreau, Clark Gregg, John Slattery, Mickey Rourke, and Samuel L. Jackson.

To me, that is nothing more than a cast list and not a list of who will be attending the presentation.  I could be wrong though.

Pete Yorn talks ‘Break Up’
11 July, 2009

Austin360 posted a short interview with Pete Yorn.  It’s mostly about his current album Back and Forth but he did have a comment about his upcoming album with Scarlett and he hints at a possible tour (of sorts).

Is it fair to say your writing is more direct on the new songs? In the past, I’d maybe probably protect myself more by being vague. There was a conscious decision to make this more simple and straightforward.

Did that spill over into writing your upcoming album (‘Break Up’) with Scarlett (Johansson)? That was more like a flurry. I was trying to figure out how to get some female perspective in my songs.

Will you two tour together when that album’s out this fall? We’ll do a couple events. I think we’ll go to Europe as well.

Samuel L. Jackson’s wedding gift!
8 July, 2009

While working together  on ‘The Spirit’ Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson got to talking about the world’s bee crisis. Apparently, the issue was really affecting Scarlett because she couldn’t stop talking about it. But Samuel listenend.

“Scarlett was always talking about how the bees were dying and the planet was going to die. I was telling her that people keep saying the bees are dying because they want to charge us more for fruit and vegetables,” he explained.
“So she kept complaining about the bees, we had the same dressing room. ‘Sam, the bees are dying, we need to do something’, so I said, ‘Ok, what I’m going to do is buy you a beehive as your weeding gift’. “And she thought I was kidding.
So once they got married, and when the weather was right, I sent my sister out to a bee farm, we got about five pounds of bees. We got them some bee suits and hats as well.”

LOL on this, Samuel L. Jackson is the coolest guy!
