20 Under 25: The Top-Earning Young Superstars
6 December, 2007

Scarlett is placed #12 on Forbes’ “20 Under 25: The Top-Earning Young Superstars” list. Apparently she made a nice $5 million this year!

12. Scarlett Johansson, $5 million
Born: Nov. 22, 1984

The sultry actress is set to appear in at least three films next year, including Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, her third flick with the director. Though her last pass at a high-profile film adaptation of a best seller went bust–this summer’s The Nanny Diaries grossed a measly $35 million–Johansson will nonetheless appear in He’s Just Not Into You, slated for release in August. Last year Johansson landed endorsement deals with Louis Vuitton and Reebok, plus an enviable role in Justin Timberlake’s video for What Goes Around (Comes Around).

Johansson Denies Plastic Surgery Story
5 December, 2007

Scarlett Johansson has reached out to OK! to clear the air regarding tabloid reports that she has had plastic surgery on her nose:

US Weekly’s cover story regarding Scarlett Johansson and its clear implication that she has had plastic or cosmetic surgery on her nose is an outrageous and defamatory fabrication lacking any conceivable basis or proof, despite vehement denials by Ms. Johansson prior to publication,” reads a statement from her rep, exclusively to OK!. “Not surprisingly, US magazine cannot provide the dates when she supposedly had this surgery, who performed the surgery, or what was supposedly done — all because there simply is no truth to the story. The publication made a pathetic attempt to validate its story by using two cover photos of Scarlett that were taken years apart with obviously different make-up and lighting, and then relying on an “expert’s opinion” (based solely on looking at the two photos) on what “might” have been done. It wasn’t.”

And Scarlett herself has this to say to OK!:

“I have always been straightforward with the press regarding my body image and I am very concerned that my fans (and perhaps even my employers) will feel mislead. Thus, I feel compelled to take immediate legal action against US Weekly.”

Scarlett Sought for Jeanne Carmen Biopic
4 December, 2007

Marilyn Monroe’s one-time best friend Jeanne Carmen wants Scarlett Johansson or Kate Bosworth to play her in a new biopic because mum-to-be Christina Aguilera is too focused on motherhood for the project.

Pop star Aguilera was set to make her big screen debut in the story of the busty blonde pin-up and golfer, but Carmen can’t wait for her to have a child and get back into shape.

So she has revealed she wants either Johansson or Bosworth to take the role in the film based on her son Brandon James’ biography The Wild, Wild Life Of Jeanne Carmen.

Carmen says, “Christina was interested in playing the part and is a born pin-up girl at heart. She became pregnant, however, and the script is now in the hands of Scarlett Johansson’s agent and Kate Bosworth’s agent.

“Either one of these girls have the talent to pull it off.”

Johansson Steps Up as Modern Day Marilyn
17 October, 2007

“Tonight, I look in the mirror and I think, ‘Oh I look glamorous,’ ” Scarlett Johansson said. “But I also wake up at 5:30 to go to work everyday. At that time, I’m just like, ‘Oh man I hope that the hair and makeup people show up today because this isn’t going to work.’ ”

As she strode down the red carpet in a black strapless Louis Vuitton dress, Scarlett Johansson was the very definition of old Hollywood glamour on Monday night at Elle magazine’s Women In Hollywood celebration.

And perhaps it’s fitting that Scarlett’s style has often garnered comparisons to the starlets of generations past, as some have even compared her to Hollywood’s most notable female icon.

“You have been called the modern day Marilyn Monroe,” Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson told Scarlett on the red carpet. “That’s such a title. When you think about that, how do you feel?”

“Well I’m a huge fan of Marilyn,” Scarlett said. “She was always so glamorous and hopefully, it’s not the tragedy that reminds everybody. Certainly, she had an incredible sort of seamless sexiness and grace that was just divine.”

Scarlett Johansson is the #3 top cover star, according to Forbes‘ first-ever analysis of the top-selling celebrity faces. Only Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt’s pictures on the covers of magazines cause a greater increase in sales than Scarlett! Here’s the top 10:

1) Jennifer Aniston
2) Brad Pitt
3) Scarlett Johansson
4) Angelina Jolie
5) Reese Witherspoon
6) Katie Holmes
7) Carrie Underwood
8) Jennifer Hudson [tie]
8) Valerie Bertinelli [tie]
10) Kelly Ripa

We looked at the newsstand sales of the six leading celebrity weeklies – People, Star, US Weekly, In Touch Weekly, Life & Style and OK! –over a six-month period ending June 30, as supplied by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. We eliminated all non-celebrity and collage covers as well as special issues with exceptionally large rate bases. Then we counted how many more–or less–issues the celebrity’s cover sold, as compared with the magazine’s average newsstand sales. Next, we factored in the number of full covers a celebrity graced. Finally, we ranked his or her consumer appeal using data from Encino, Calif.-based polling firm E-Poll Market Research to rule out flukes.

Here is what they said about Miss Johansson:

When it comes to fans, Johansson is hardly lacking. The Nanny Diaries star ranks sixth in likability, with an E-Poll score of 28. Perhaps the tabloids should show her some of the same. After all, when ScarJo graced the Jan. 22 cover of US Weekly, newsstand sales shot up 7%.
