‘Wretches and Jabberers’ documentary on autism draws support (and music) from Scarlett Johansson and others
24 October, 2010

J. Ralph confesses to having a major cultural flashback experience while working with the stellar musical lineup he assembled to record songs for a new documentary about autism, “Wretches and Jabberers: And Stories From the Road.”

The remarkably diverse list of participants includes Norah Jones, Scarlett Johansson, Carly Simon, Devendra Banhart, Antony Hegarty, Ben Harper, Vashti Bunyan, Bob Weir, Stephen Stills and Vincent Gallo among many more.

They all signed on to be part of producer-director Gerardine Wurzberg’s film centering on a road trip undertaken by two autistic adult men.

“It was the craziest thing,” said Ralph, the New York singer and songwriter who composed scores for two previous Academy Award-winning documentaries, James Marsh’s “Man on Wire” in 2008 and Louis Psihoyos “The Cove” from last year. Ralph’s work on those projects prompted Wurzberg to seek him out to supply music for her exploration of the isolation and alienation that often accompanies autism.

So will the couple be featuring on Mango billboards across the country?

Black Movie solo film in discussion
24 September, 2010

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that discussions are already in the works to have Scarlett Johansson reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff in a Black Widow spinoff film, though the project will take a backburner while The Avengers is in development.

“We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts,” said Feige in a press conference for the Iron Man 2 Blu-ray/DVD today, “but ‘The Avengers’ comes first.”

Johansson is reprising her role as the character in the ensemble film, heading into production with Joss Whedon at the helm and planned for a summer 2012 release.

Ryan Reynolds on Marrying Scarlett: “I’m a Little More Guarded”
15 September, 2010

Thank you, GQ, thank you! The handsome actor Ryan Reynolds is the October cover star and he’s sharing some insights into his very private marriage to Scarlett Johansson.

Ryan’s career is in full swing with big films coming up like Green Lantern and Buried. The 33-year-old actor had to spend two weeks in a coffin to film Buried!

“I’ll never, ever in my life complain on a set again after being on that set,” Ryan tells GQ. “Sixteen, seventeen days of doing that… It was such a state of emotional distress.”

One thing that looks like it would be distressing in Ryan’s life is keeping his marriage to Scarlett as private as possible, but it sounds like he’s got a pretty good handle on it and his life hasn’t changed too much because of it.

“Things change when you get married in general. But in terms of being a couple that’s in a public situation and speculated about and all that nonsense, it’s changed a little bit,” he explains. “I’m a little more guarded, I think. I’m a little bit more wary of having my relationship turning into a soap opera. I’ve just unilaterally not addressed it. That’s kind of been the fail-safe for me.”

But Ryan would argue that they’re not as private about their relationship as you think.

“I think it’s embellished upon. It hasn’t been some covert operation,” the star explains of staying out of the spotlight with Scarlett. “I mean, certainly the wedding was, but I believe anyone should have the right to have a private wedding ceremony. I think if anything’s sacred it should be that. But for the most part — I can only speak for me, as one-half of that relationship — I choose to remain as private as possible without being secretive.”

And to those who think Scarlett’s reference to Ryan as “my Canadian” during her acceptance speech for her Tony Award in June was due to her fear of using the word “husband” in public, well, that’s simply not true.

“No, I think that’s just a cute moment between a husband and wife,” Ryan says. “People can turn it into whatever will sell the story, the magazine. They can say whatever they want to say. That’s fine.”

Scarlett & Blake Lively Compete for ‘Gravity’
7 September, 2010

Greetings Scarlett fans! I stumbled upon an interesting article today. Looks like Scarlett might be competing with Blake Lively for a new role. Of course, we hope Scarlett wins ;) Check it out:

Call it the battle of the blondes: Sources confirm a report in The Hollywood Reporter today that Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively are the frontrunners to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s next project Gravity opposite Robert Downey Jr. Both women have tested for the role of an astronaut lost in space, fighting her way back to Earth. Neither Johansson nor Lively have yet to receive an offer, however.

Sources say that Lively auditioned for the role over a month ago along with 11 other women. Johansson only read for the part last week.

While Johannson is a bigger star internationally, Warner Bros. has long been a fan of cultivating young talent that it had a hand in discovering, which definitely describes Lively. She co-stars in the studio’s upcoming flick The Town as well as Green Lantern, in which she plays Ryan Reynolds’ love interest. Warner Bros. TV is also responsible for Gossip Girl, which co-stars Lively, on the CW.

It’s not lost on anyone that Reynolds is Johansson’s husband. Depending on the outcome of the Cuaron project, the Green Lantern premiere could be one awkward affair. Warner Bros. declined to comment.
