Scarlett Johansson – the face of everyone
28 May, 2009

You know an actress has a killer brand when clothing and spirits and athletic retailers alike can visualize her lighting up their next ad campaign.

Such is the image Scarlett Johansson has carved out for herself. She’s managed, somehow, to become one of the world’s biggest bombshells without sacrificing her innate indie-ingenue qualities. Guys lust after her — girls identify with her. She’s equally appealing to Vogue and Maxim audiences.

All of which makes her an advertising exec’s dream. Note to pitchmen and pitchwomen everywhere: totally blanking on a concept for your next assignment? Call to mind one of those buzzwords you’re always tossing out — fresh, sexy, edgy — and see if all of them don’t apply to Johansson.

27 May, 2009

Several Spanish news sites have announced that Scarlett will be replacing Penelope Cruz as the face of Mango for the Fall/Winter 2009/2010 campaign.  Mango had this to say about why Scarlett was chosen:

“extraordinary personality, fun, young; she’s Mango’s ideal urban woman, independent and cosmopolitan.”

The launch date for this new campaign has not been announced but I will be adding a few behind the scenes photos from the shoot shortly.

edit: Three MQ behind the scenes photos have been added.

Scarlett Johansson for Moet & Chandon
25 April, 2009

Moet & Chandon, the champagne of cinema, last night (March 24, 2009) introduced its highly-anticipated celebrity spokesperson at its “Tribute to Cinema” gala at London’s Big Sky studio: the effervescent Scarlett Johansson. Always the legendary pioneer, Moet is the very first champagne House to introduce a Hollywood celebrity ambassador, introducing the face of the world’s most loved champagne.

Celebrating among the delighted and glamorous guest list were British and international movie stars and socialites, including Thandie Newton, Joseph Fiennes and Melanie Laurent.

Moet’s “Tribute to Cinema” theme infused every detail of the evening, which was held at London’s Big Sky film studio. British and international celebrities arrived in “red carpet” attire and were elegantly greeted by House President Frederic Cumenal. Following the Moet red carpet tradition from the international film festivals the House supports, celebrities were invited to autograph a Moet & Chandon Nebuchadnezzar, to be auctioned off in direct support of Scarlett’s charity of choice, international aid agency Oxfam and its climate change work.

“Moet and the movies both tell compelling stories and share authentic emotions with the world,” explained Scarlett Johansson, the first Hollywood face of Moet & Chandon. “I am honored to have been chosen as their ambassador and to make history with the brand, as the first celebrity face of champagne!”

Earlier today in Milan, Scarlett attended the presentation of Dolce & Gabbana: The Make Up. She is the new face of their first cosmetics brand. Print ads have already been seen in billboards in Italy. The make up will go on sale in March.

At the event, Scarlett looked super pretty and feminine in a light pink silk blouse, black trousers and accessorized with her hair in an up-do with a cute headband and a leapord print coat.

Dolce & Gabbana Cosmetics – First Print Ad
19 January, 2009

Soon after I made my previous entry the very first advert of Scarlett’s Dolce & Gabbana cosmetic campaign was discovered.

Scarlett evokes the old school glamour and beauty of Marilyn Monroe. The campaign was shot by Sølve Sundsbø in a London studio. The photo is gorgeous and there are 2 other photos that are supposed to be less inspired by Ms. Monroe.

The line is very lux and each item comes in a gold case and velvet pouch. Much like the rest of their collection, the cosmetics are inspired by the beauty of Italia – from Mediterranean blues to the black of volcanic ash. They’ve added scent to their cosmetics as well, harkening back to retro lipsticks that had scents. Distribution for the new line is highly selective and in the U.S. it will be sold at Saks on Fifth Avenue in NY and Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.

More On D&G Beauty: Scarlett Johansson Channels Marilyn
19 January, 2009

We have learned that for Scarlett’s campaign for Dolce and Gabbana’s beauty line she will be styled like Marilyn Monroe! I truly can not wait to see this! Ads should begin debuting next month.

Scarlett Johansson has frequently been compared to the iconic blonde bombshell so it is perhaps no surprise that in the advert for the upcoming D&G makeup campaign, shot by Nick Knight protege fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo, Scarlett is styled as the ultimate sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. And dare we say, it’s all so very Dolce and Gabbana.

The 24-year-old actress wears a corset and knickers for her role while lying on silken sheets. Scarlett strikes a Marilyn Monroe pose with her short blonde curls and ruby red lips.

On picking Scarlett for their brand new cosmetics range, Stefano Gabbana, one half of the design pair, said, “Scarlett is sure of herself. She’s a beautiful girl, but she’s really easy going. She is very Dolce & Gabbana.”

He added, describing the range and why the famed fashion duo decided to make the leap into cosmetics, “We see makeup as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection — you can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood.”

The range will include lipsticks scented with rose. “We wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother’s handbags — the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first.”

Dolce & Gabbana Makeup Campaign Next Month
16 January, 2009

Dolce & Gabbana will make its long-awaited entry into color cosmetics early next month. The campaign will star Scarlett Johansson. Hopefully we will begin seeing adverts with her then!

On their new makeup collection thay said: “We see makeup as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection — you can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood.”

The move into makeup is seen as a springboard that could transform Dolce.

Is Scarlett Dolce’s New Beauty?
13 December, 2008

Style.com (the home of Vogue) has sources that say Scarlett Johansson will be the new face for upcoming Dolce & Gabbana‘s beauty line! Scarlett is a huge fan of theirs and has wore several of their dresses to public outings, like at the “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” Costume Institute Gala and A Funny Thing Happened events. I personally hope it’s true! It would be nice to look forward to regularly released adverts again!

It seems that fashion’s Spring 2009 infatuation with celebrity campaign faces isn’t ending with Madonna for Louis Vuitton and Katie Holmes for Miu Miu. According to Style File’s sources, Scarlett Johansson has not only inked a deal to front a beauty campaign for Italian giants Dolce & Gabbana, she’s already been shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the gig. While the details are still under wraps— whether the campaign is for a new fragrance, or something else—one thing we can bet on is that it wasn’t a stretch for Scarlett to pour her curvy frame into the clothes. Not only has she worn the house’s wares on multiple occasions, she was also Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce’s date for this year’s Met ball. They say these things happen in threes. Perhaps the Madonna/ Katie/Scarlett celebrity fashion triumvirate is now complete. We can think of at least one group that hopes it’s so: models.
