Before heading off for a mini-break I thought I’d remind you that Scarlett’s new movie, The Other Boleyn Girl, opens in North America this Friday. Be sure to go out and see it – and don’t forget to post your thoughts on it and Scarlett’s performance here or at the forum! The reviews have been very mixed so I’d really love to hear the opinions of the fans. I have to wait until March 7 to see it myself.

I will approve all comments and post news/pics again on Monday. :)

Check out this great new interview with Natalie Portman over at Times Online. She mentions Scarlett quite a bit:

Back when Portman was 14, she was the face of Isaac Mizrahi, who would go on to cause a minor scandal at the Golden Globes two years ago, when he grabbed Johansson’s breasts. “Seriously, I would want to grab them. She’s got beautiful ones, but, Isaac, that was not so appropriate.”

And, of course, while Portman is famously Jewish, Johansson is a lesser-known Jew (because of her Scandinavian father, she’s called “the kosher Danish”). When Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek made a movie together, all the headlines blared “the Hot Tamales”. What should the media label a film starring two Jewish girls? Portman doesn’t miss a beat.

“The Hot Knishes,” she says, referring to the Jewish delicacy. She says how good Johansson is, adding that in her own forthcoming film, My Blueberry Nights, Rachel Weisz “will knock your socks off”. But her favourite co-star of all time?

“Stephen Fry, when we made V for Vendetta. I wanted to spend all my time with him. He is awesome.”

I have added the video and 340 screencaptures of Scarlett’s Regis & Kelly appearance, which aired earlier today. She chats about the Kuwait tour, which she describes as a life-changing experience, Woody Allen and, of course, The Other Boleyn Girl. I personally absolutely love Scarlett’s look and, as usual, she’s very well spoken and totally adorable here.

Here’s another Boleyn Girl review, courtesy of Hollywood Reporter. It is less complimentary than the Variety one but it still praises Scarlett’s versatility and her character’s growth in the movie.

Anne Boleyn was the one who managed to stay alive while married to England’s King Henry VIII for 1,000 days, but her sister Mary in “The Other Boleyn Girl” would have been his queen if only she had been better at making babies.

That, of course, was always the problem. The Tudor line’s grip on the throne was invariably threatened by the lack of a son, even though it would be daughter Elizabeth who reigned in the nation’s golden age.

In Justin Chadwick’s handsome but glum film, based on the novel by Philippa Gregory, the focus is on Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) as their father, Thomas Boleyn (Mark Rylance), and uncle, the Duke of Norfolk (David Morrissey), conspire for one of them to win the king’s fancy while their mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) looks on in disgust.

The Prince of Wales attended a “double” royal premiere tonight, as he met the stars of a new film featuring one of his ancestors.

Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall met the actors from The Other Boleyn Girl at a screening at the Odeon cinema in London’s Leicester Square.

Natalie Portman, who stars with Scarlett Johansson as sisters Anne and Mary Boleyn battling to win the affections of Henry VIII, said she was very excited to meet the prince.

“It must be so strange to see a film version of your family,” she said.

Check out a new interview with Scarlett and Natalie Portman, courtsesy of Cinema Blend.

“I found strengths in every character that I’ve played. Even if it is a vulnerable person or someone who’s easily manipulated, there are strengths to every personality. Even if I wasn’t looking for a girl power kind of role, maintaining integrity in a character is a positive thing for women to see. It’s inspiring for women of all ages.”

MovieWeb has posted lots of Boleyn Girl related videos. They include two behind the scenes-videos and video interviews with the cast and crew, including Scarlett herself. It is certainly a good watch. Big thanks to Filip for the heads-up! As usual, I’ve made screen captures of all of the videos featuring footage of Jo.

Variety gives The Other Boleyn Girl a rave review, especially complimenting Scarlett’s work!!! I am really excited as the early reviews were mixed and not so complimentary of Scarlett. It has been a while since I’ve read such a positive review of a new performance of hers. Check it out!

Playing less fast and loose with history than Philippa Gregory’s novel, “The Other Boleyn Girl” is a sexy, good-looking political bodice-ripper with an almost flawless cast at the top of its game. With a straight-arrow script by Peter Morgan (“The Queen”) and smooth direction by Brit TV helmer Justin Chadwick (“Bleak House”), pic has the feel of an Old Hollywood studio costumer freshened up with contempo technique and acting styles. Tip-top cast, led by Eric Bana and Scarlett Johansson as Henry VIII and Mary Boleyn, could make this score beyond upscale auds with aggressive promotion and good reviews.
