On the Cover of NME!
20 May, 2008

This week’s issue of NME – on UK newsstands nationwide from tomorrow (May 21) – has an exclusive cover story and photoshoot with Scarlett Johansson. Stay tuned for scans!

Actress Scarlett Johansson, who released an album of Tom Waits covered named “Anywhere I Lay My Head” yesterday (May 19), has hinted that she may play festival dates this summer.

The star said that the only thing stopping her was stagefright.

“It would be sad to not get everybody [band members] together,” she told The London Paper. “Whether it’s at a festival or somewhere that’s kind of fun.

“[But] I have horrible stage fright, so it would have to be overcome. People approach me [about playing live] and my usual answer is, ‘Ah, I’ll think about that’.

“When I do think about it, I start to get really sweaty and uncomfortable and itchy around the neck.”

“Lay Your Head Where My Heart Used To Be”
18 May, 2008

I totally forgot to post about this before but Scarlett made #2 on Maxim‘s 2008 Hot 100 list. Model Marisa Miller made #1 this year. The ‘sexy’ thing is getting kind of old but here’s what they had to say about our girl anyways:

Perched high atop the A-list, this dangerously curvy bombshell (and possessor of Hollywood’s most luscious lips) has the acting chops to back up her mind-melting hotness. We’ve watched her in indie films (Lost in Translation, Match Point). We’ve watched her in chick flicks (The Nanny Diaries, The Other Boleyn Girl). Truth is, we’d rapturously watch her sort her recycling. But first we’ll be in line for her most guy-friendly project yet, the noirish, Frank Miller–directed The Spirit.

Scarlett was on the cover of today’s The Times Culture supplement. I’ve scanned it and added the lengthy article here in the press archive. The gallery has been updated a lot this weekend with scans, album shoot pics and cover scans, AOL sessions caps and stills and more! Click here to view all – it is too many things to list here. Big thanks to Gary, Roberto, Luca, rope, Mina and everyone else who contributed to this post.

As I mentioned before, I am in between my exams and I will be moving in two weeks time so this will likely be the last big update for the month. I will try my best to keep you updated with news and anything else major but obviously, my studies and move take first priority. I will add all pending videos, photos and articles once everything’s settled again.

Last but certainly not least, Scarlett’s “Anywhere I Lay My Head” is released tomorrow in the UK and on Tuesday in the US. I have listed the album through several times now and while I wasn’t crazy about the first single, I happy to say that I already love the album. Yes, people, it is really good. My faves tracks include Green Grass, No One Knows I’m Gone, Song For Jo and I Wish I Was in New Orleans. Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Paste – June 2008 Scans
16 May, 2008

We now have the scans of the June issue of Paste magazine, courtesy of my wonderful friend Stef. Big thanks again to her for providing us with these!

I’ve added the article from the magazine as well as a recent – and very good, if I may add – interview from Pitchfork. Check them out:

My Five Dads
Interview: Scarlett Johansson

“The ambient noise, humidity, the heaviness, the inescapable stickiness that is the Bayou– it’s magical, in a way. Capturing that sound, that’s the thread or the glue that holds the whole album together. Because it spans Waits’ whole career and [because] there’s no specific storyline we were trying to follow, where we were is what really makes the album whole and cohesive. It was incredible being there. I’ve always loved Louisiana and particularly New Orleans, and I think a lot of people when they travel there, think they’re home there– there are just so many spirits, it’s so rich in culture. It’s steeped in [a] true [spirit of] individuality that makes this country. It’s the oldest part of our story, in a way. And being in that climate, it was really conducive to letting our imaginations soar. I found it to be the true inspiration for the album. I always associated the Bayou and that intoxicating air and, like you said, humidity, with Tom Waits. So it felt very apropos, I guess.”

This weekend will be very busy as Vicky Cristina Barcelona will take on Cannes. I am currently studying for my exams but I will try my very best at keeping you up to date with all the latest Scarlett related Cannes happenings.

“Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” Costume Institute Gala
6 May, 2008

As earlier reported, Scarlett is in attendance of tonight’s “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is a different look for Scarlett and she’s looking absolutely stunning! You can definitely see a glow there. What do you think of her Dolce & Gabbana gown? I think she looks like a fairy princess.

Update: First photos have been added in the gallery.

Straight from the Donations Bin
4 May, 2008

I have been going through the donations bin this weekend, which includes some really cool stuff. Romina and Joanna sent in scans from new Dutch and Polish magazines (including some new pics!) and Roberto contributed screencaps of deleted scenes of The Nanny Diaries, which can be found on the Italian DVD. I’ve scanned Scarlett’s page from the FHM ’100 Sexiest’ special and added plenty of additional pictures to the New York, I Love You on set albums. Click here to view all new additions. Enjoy the new goodies and, again, thanks so much to everyone who contributed!
