The story of fallen French Emperor Napoleon during his last years on the island of St. Helena when he falls in love with a 14-year old English girl, Betsy Balcombe. The story is told through Betsy's eyes.

Scarlett Johansson's Role

Scarlett will play Betsy Balcombe. She was very young when Napoleon Bonaparte came to live in her garden. The two forged an extraordinary relationship in the first weeks of Napoleon's incarceration on St. Helena.

Update: Because of the years of delay of the production and Scarlett now being too old to play a 14-year old, the role of Betsy has been re-cast. She will now be portrayed by Emma Watson. Scarlett will instead co-produce.

Quotes: Scarlett Johansson

• "I've been attached to that project for so long, I can't even remember how long it's been. It's difficult. It's been through a lot of hands. At first, it was a definite script with certain producers and then they ended up really kind of massacring the idea. But it's such a brilliant story and it's public domain, so we've decided to develop the sort of movie we could actually make. That's being written right now."
