Variety gives The Other Boleyn Girl a rave review, especially complimenting Scarlett’s work!!! I am really excited as the early reviews were mixed and not so complimentary of Scarlett. It has been a while since I’ve read such a positive review of a new performance of hers. Check it out!
Playing less fast and loose with history than Philippa Gregory’s novel, “The Other Boleyn Girl” is a sexy, good-looking political bodice-ripper with an almost flawless cast at the top of its game. With a straight-arrow script by Peter Morgan (“The Queen”) and smooth direction by Brit TV helmer Justin Chadwick (“Bleak House”), pic has the feel of an Old Hollywood studio costumer freshened up with contempo technique and acting styles. Tip-top cast, led by Eric Bana and Scarlett Johansson as Henry VIII and Mary Boleyn, could make this score beyond upscale auds with aggressive promotion and good reviews.
Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Eric Bana and Justin Chadwick will be attendance today at the Berlin Film Festival to promote Boleyn Girl. The photocall and press conference are a few hours away from starting. You can live stream them at Berlinale.de starting 2.25 PM (Berlin time). The premiere will be on at 7 PM. If anyone is able to help with grabbing the videos as they come, please get in touch! I’d love to post them for all fans to see even if they are not online as it happens.
Also, be sure to stay tuned for photo coverage! It has been a while since Scarlett attended a big red carpet even so I’ll be sure to bring you lots of eye candy later on today.
Paramount Vantage is closing in on domestic rights to Phillip Noyce’s Mary Queen of Scots, starring Scarlett Johansson. Terms are still being finalized.
The actress will play the 16th century monarch who had an antagonistic relationship with Queen Elizabeth I of England and was eventually beheaded.
Capitol Films and Relativity Media are financing, with Jimmy McGovern is penning the screenplay. The star’s mother and manager Melanie Johansson will produce the film with Alexandra Milchan.
Scarlett Johansson unveiled her debut album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” for journalists today (Feb. 12) at New York’s Joe’s Pub. As previously reported, the album includes 10 Tom Waits covers and one original (“Song for Jo”), and will be released May 20 via Atco/Rhino.
“Anywhere” was produced by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, who told the crowd he was going for a “cough medicine/Tinker Bell” vibe, sound-wise. David Bowie, whom Johansson met a party just prior to beginning work on the album, lends his distinctive vocals to the tracks “Falling Down” and “Fannin’ Street,” while Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of the band Celebration contribute throughout.
Johansson said she initially considered making an album of standards, but that the project slowly morphed into a Waits-dominated affair. “His melodies are so beautiful and his voice is so distinct,” she said.
The result, according to Johansson, has met with the notoriously persnickety Waits’ approval. “I sent him some of the early, early recordings, and he said, ‘Go ahead,'” she said. “I’ve heard he’s very pleased.”
I have another big update today for all of you. As earlier reported, Scarlett appeared on The Today Show this morning alongside her Boleyn sister Natalie Portman. Both ladies looked very beautiful. I really loved Scarlett’s look here… Simply stunning!
Natalie gushed on her co-star:
“That’s why I was so excited to do it. It’s so rare to get to work with someone you admire so much and who is in your same age range. It’s such a great opportunity to get to see how this actress that you love works up close. I got to watch how she prepares and got to have her as a scene partner.”
The twosome also appeared in Access Hollywood. I’ve added caps from both segments, as well as pics of Scarlett arriving at The Today Show.
You can also check out seven The Other Boleyn Girl clips at BlackFilm.com. Scarlett appears only briefly in the first clip and not at all in the fifth and seventh. You can, however, catch her in all of the other four, all worth the look!
I am having some issues encoding videos at the moment but click on the links below to preview all mentioned appearances.

I have added the preview cover and photoshoot of Scarlett and Natalie in the March 2008 issue of W magazine. Whether or not you like it, I think everyone will agree it is certainly a different photoshoot from the usual. The magazine hits newsstands nationwide on Tuesday, February 26.
Check out the article here.
“You’re never going to find me at the Ivy,” says Johansson, referring to the notorious paparazzi hangout. “I don’t care how good the Cobb salad is. These tabloid magazines—I think they’re hideous and the downfall of society.”
