Scarlett Johansson unveiled her debut album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” for journalists today (Feb. 12) at New York’s Joe’s Pub. As previously reported, the album includes 10 Tom Waits covers and one original (“Song for Jo”), and will be released May 20 via Atco/Rhino.
“Anywhere” was produced by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, who told the crowd he was going for a “cough medicine/Tinker Bell” vibe, sound-wise. David Bowie, whom Johansson met a party just prior to beginning work on the album, lends his distinctive vocals to the tracks “Falling Down” and “Fannin’ Street,” while Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of the band Celebration contribute throughout.
Johansson said she initially considered making an album of standards, but that the project slowly morphed into a Waits-dominated affair. “His melodies are so beautiful and his voice is so distinct,” she said.
The result, according to Johansson, has met with the notoriously persnickety Waits’ approval. “I sent him some of the early, early recordings, and he said, ‘Go ahead,'” she said. “I’ve heard he’s very pleased.”
I have another big update today for all of you. As earlier reported, Scarlett appeared on The Today Show this morning alongside her Boleyn sister Natalie Portman. Both ladies looked very beautiful. I really loved Scarlett’s look here… Simply stunning!
Natalie gushed on her co-star:
“That’s why I was so excited to do it. It’s so rare to get to work with someone you admire so much and who is in your same age range. It’s such a great opportunity to get to see how this actress that you love works up close. I got to watch how she prepares and got to have her as a scene partner.”
The twosome also appeared in Access Hollywood. I’ve added caps from both segments, as well as pics of Scarlett arriving at The Today Show.
You can also check out seven The Other Boleyn Girl clips at BlackFilm.com. Scarlett appears only briefly in the first clip and not at all in the fifth and seventh. You can, however, catch her in all of the other four, all worth the look!
I am having some issues encoding videos at the moment but click on the links below to preview all mentioned appearances.

I have added the preview cover and photoshoot of Scarlett and Natalie in the March 2008 issue of W magazine. Whether or not you like it, I think everyone will agree it is certainly a different photoshoot from the usual. The magazine hits newsstands nationwide on Tuesday, February 26.
Check out the article here.
“You’re never going to find me at the Ivy,” says Johansson, referring to the notorious paparazzi hangout. “I don’t care how good the Cobb salad is. These tabloid magazines—I think they’re hideous and the downfall of society.”

Penelope Cruz commented about the sex scene between her and Scarlett’s characters in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She told a Spanish newspaper that the reportages have been exaggerated – as usual. Thanks to rope for sharing this and ScarlettSkies for the translation:
Question: And moreover, it looks like everyone is looking forward to your scene with Scarlett Johansson…
– (smiles) Well, I suppose you’re gonna ask me about everything that was published in newspapers regarding my character and Scarlett’s character, the way they talk about it, they’ve made it sound like a porn. Unfortunately -and I’m saying unfortunately for those who wrote it that way- Scarlett and I only share a sort of romantic scene… and well, I don’t want to reveal things about the film but let’s say that they made it sound much different from what it really is.
The internet has once again been buzzing of Scarlett’s possible ‘engagement’ to Ryan Reynolds as she was spotted looking at wedding dresses in Los Angeles. However, it is just gossip and Scarlett is not engaged, says her rep. Here’s a report from Newswatch:
Actress Scarlett Johansson has dismissed reports she’s engaged to marry her boyfriend Ryan Reynolds.
The Lost In Translation star, who has been dating actor Reynolds for nearly a year, was spotted looking at wedding dresses in Los Angeles, fuelling speculation she is planning to wed.
However, it’s Johansson’s relative who is preparing to walk down the aisle, and not the actress.
Johansson’s representative says, “A family member is getting married, not her. She is not engaged.”
Scarlett has booked a few talk show appearances to promote her new movie The Other Boleyn Girl. You can catch her on the following shows… And, as per usual, check back on the site for videos and caps.
• Tuesday, February 12 – Today Show (NBC)
• Friday, February 22 – Live with Regis and Kelly (ABC)
New York Post posted this piece concerning a cover shoot that Scarlett and Natalie Portman recently did for W magazine. I truly cannot wait to see this editorial! I assume it will appear in the March issue of W. I will keep you posted!
If Natalie Portman looks a little nervous with Scarlett Johansson’s arm around her, it’s probably because she is.
The actresses, who star as rival sisters in the upcoming The Other Boleyn Girl, couldn’t seem more different, Natalie says.
“I get branded a lot as a good girl,” she tells W magazine for a recent cover shoot in Santa Fe, NM.
“I’m like the prude, and you,” she tells Scarlett, “are more sexy, more like . . . ”
“A harlot!” Johansson adds, finishing the thought.
In the film, Portman, 26, and Johansson, 23, vie for the affection of King Henry VIII, played by Eric Bana.
In the interview, Johansson riffs about shooting sex scenes, including one recently for Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona – in which she has a steamy affair with Penelope Cruz and a menage a trois involving Cruz’s real-life boyfriend, Javier Bardem.
“There are 60 people right there, eating, like, salami sandwiches!” Johansson says, adding that Cruz is “so open and funny and cute. I want to bite her when I see her!”
Superhero Hype! has learned that Lionsgate is really digging what writer/director Frank Miller is doing with Will Eisner’s The Spirit. They’ve already signed him for two sequels to the graphic novel adaptation and, from what the studio has seen, are expecting it to be a blockbuster when the action-adventure opens on January 16, 2009.
The Spirit tells the visceral, action-packed story of a man (Gabriel Macht) who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) — who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face — has a different mission: he’s going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City’s rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront… all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.
