A group of celebrities and dignitaries signed an open letter in Britain’s Daily Telegraph yesterday, urging the G8 to give all people – rich and poor in all countries – the support they need to live decent and dignified lives when they meet for the summit taking place in Italy.
Annie Lennox, Colin Firth, Scarlett Johansson, Angélique Kidjo, Bill Nighy and many others put their names to the letter, which will also appear in the UK’s Financial Times.
“You have a unique opportunity in Italy this year to ensure that all people, in rich countries and poor, are given the support they need to live decent and dignified lives,“ they wrote. “You have taken important steps to this end at previous G8 Summits. In 2001 you acknowledged that industrialized nations had a responsibility to tackle global inequality through deeper debt relief and more aid, and you agreed to establish a Global Fund for HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria. In 2005, you promised to increase annual aid levels to $50bn.
While working together on ‘The Spirit’ Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson got to talking about the world’s bee crisis. Apparently, the issue was really affecting Scarlett because she couldn’t stop talking about it. But Samuel listenend.
“Scarlett was always talking about how the bees were dying and the planet was going to die. I was telling her that people keep saying the bees are dying because they want to charge us more for fruit and vegetables,” he explained.
“So she kept complaining about the bees, we had the same dressing room. ‘Sam, the bees are dying, we need to do something’, so I said, ‘Ok, what I’m going to do is buy you a beehive as your weeding gift’. “And she thought I was kidding.
So once they got married, and when the weather was right, I sent my sister out to a bee farm, we got about five pounds of bees. We got them some bee suits and hats as well.”
LOL on this, Samuel L. Jackson is the coolest guy!
I received an official email from the people at lashortsfest.com with some information about Scarlett’s upcoming appearance.
Just wanted to see if you would put out the word that Scarlett Johansson will be opening the 13th Annual LA Shorts Fest July 23-31 in Hollywood. She will be premiering her short film These Vagabond Shoes starring Kevin Bacon and will be participating in a Q&A after the screening. Tickets to opening night are $30 and available July 20 at www.laemmle.com. Come out and support Scarlett.
In site news, I’m aware that the gallery is down. There seems to be a server issue with databases and my host will get it fixed as soon as possible. I’m sorry for any inconvenience.
Beautiful Hollywood actress, Scarlett Johansson seems to be inspiring to a lot of people lately. First, she inspired Kate Perry’s song I Kissed a Girl, then she inspired Dolce & Gabbana’s make up-line, moved the world with her inspiring message for Rwanda, and now, she’s inspired Cacharel to launch a new fragrance.
With the catchy phrase, “Mon secret est à l’intérieur,” which is French for “My secret is on the inside!” Cacharel is taking a journey back to their roots with their newest feminine fragrance.
The new fragrance, Scarlett, is set to be launched in July by the French fashion and fragrance houe, Cacharel. This new scent is targeted towards young women, aged 15 to 25 years old.
The new perfume’s components include jasmine, orange blossom, honeysuckle, citruses, tea leaves, pear, white musks and sandalwood. Made by famous perfumers Honorine Blanc, Alberto Morillas and Olivier Cresp, it is being touted as “romantic, fresh, and daring.”
Past Cacharel models and inspirations include Laetitia Casta with the fragrance, Promese, Kate Moss and her fragrance, Anais Anais, and Gisele Bundchen with Liberté. All of the mentioned celebrities have actively participated in their respective fragrances’ ad campaigns.
However, it isn’t yet clear whether the company can get Scarlett to participate in the ad campaigns due to her increasingly busy schedule. From the images of Scarlett advertisements on the internet, it looks like they went with a young and pretty model to stand as a mannequin carrying the perfume.
In honor of Nelson Mandela, Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) and Hachette Audio produced an audiobook edition of Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales, an award-winning book of stories hand-picked by the Nobel laureate.

Comingsoon.net talked to Phillip Noyce and among many other things, he made a brief mention of Mary, Queen of Scots.
On the Mary, Queen of Scots project with Scarlett Johansson: “That film was being financed by a company that essentially went broke… the finances went bankrupt early last year.”
Things are not looking good for the future of this project
Excitement at ITV2, which announces a reality show in which Fearne Cotton will shadow four famous women including Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson. What a scoop! “The series will be a real chance to peel back the layers of certain celebrities’ lives,” says Cotton. But how did they manage to sign such an A-list talent? Her agent, Marcel Pariseau, of True Public Relations, says: “We have never been approached about the Fearne Cotton show and Scarlett would never participate in this sort of show. Scarlett is a very private person. It’s a complete fabrication.” Sounds like something was lost in translation.
Thank God Scarlett won’t be taking part in that reality show, I can’t see her related to Paris Hilton in any way, and she’s a really private person. It sounded really strange.
Back in May, we reported that Scarlett’s segment was cut from New York, I Love You. We now have good news! Although the segment was not put back in, the short film will be getting a release of sorts.
Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, a short film titled The Vagabond Shows, starring Kevin Bacon, will premiere as part of the opening night of LA Shorts Fest ’09, which runs July 23-31 at the Sunset 5 Laemmle Theater in West Hollywood.
Johansson will appear and take part in a Q&A.
The festival, which will screen more than 300 films, is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a qualifying fest for Oscar consideration.
This means another appearance very soon! We will of course keep you all updated as we learn more.
For the a new remake of Frankenstein, they want Bride Zilla to be played by someone “along the lines of Scarlett Johansson”. The role was originally played by Elsa Lanchester. What do you guys think? Is this a role you’d like to see Scarlett play?
“The Bride of Frankenstein will be young this time. They’re looking for a person with great power and sex appeal. Someone along the lines of Scarlett Johansson or Anne Hathaway.”
The wild-haired bride was originally played by English actress Elsa Lanchester.
The film follows on from ‘Frankenstein’ – which sees Dr. Frankenstein bring a ‘human’ to life from separate body parts – and sees the doctor create a partner for the monster.
