Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the Coen brothers’ drama “Hail Caesar.”
Jonah Hill is also in talks to join the cast.
She would join Josh Brolin and George Clooney. Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes are also in negotiations to co-star.
Universal will distribute with the Coens producing, along with Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title Films.
The story follows a Hollywood fixer in the 1950s who is working to keep a studio’s stars in line.
Johansson will play an actress who suddenly becomes pregnant as her film is about to go into production. It’s a good fit, since Johansson announced in March that she was pregnant. She is engaged to Romain Dauriac.
The plan is to go into production this fall and given the size of the cast, Johansson’s role is not expected to take very long to shoot.
She can be seen next in Universal’s “Lucy” and just wrapped production on Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” She is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment.

After keeping a low profile, pregnant Scarlett Johansson was spotted going on a walk with her fiancé, Romain Dauriac, in London. Wearing a gray hoodie paired with leggings, the 29-year-old Avengers star looks to be well into her second or third trimester.
Johansson, who was previously married to Ryan Reynolds, told WSJ magazine that her life with Dauriac is “quiet.”
She also opened up about balancing work and family life. “I know that with that there will be some sacrifices,” she confessed. “There must exist a world in which I can balance those things, be able to raise a family and still make a film a year, or work on my own, develop things, do theater. I want to be able to have it all. Selfishly.”
When previously asked about the lack of female superhero movies, Marvel chief Kevin Feige has remained diplomatic, yet non-committal. During the press tour for ‘Thor 2,’ Feige’s comments were “I’m not sure when that will be” and “we’ll see what happens.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement for a female-led Marvel movie. Apparently, things have changed over the past few months and now Feige, when asked specifically about Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow, said that they are actively developing her own solo movie.
Feige was speaking to Total Film about Captain America: The Winter Soldier and how that film gives us Black Widow’s biggest role yet and how the upcoming The Avengers: Age Of Ultron will give us details about her past. He then added:
We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.
Feige didn’t exactly make a big splashy announcement about a future film, but it’s good to hear that it’s something they want to do. The Black Widow character is almost perfect for a ‘Bourne Identity’ style spinoff and an easy transition to the first female-driven Marvel movie. Hopefully the success of that movie would open up even more doors for characters like Ms. Marvel and, even in the DC universe, Wonder Woman herself.
Considering the Phase 3 movies are all but set, we don’t see a Black Widow movie happening in the immediate future, but if Marvel really is looking at releasing four movies a year (one per quarter), they’re going to need to start thinking outside of the “Phase 3? box and scheduling some spinoffs.
We had a blast with ‘Captain America 2‘ and it’s the kind of film that we can see ourselves watching over and over again. And, what better way to do that than with the ‘Captain America 2? DVD, Blu-ray and Steelbook Blu-Ray, which has officially been announced for a September 9 release date and will include an audio commentary, never-before-seen deleted scenes, a gag reel and more.
The ‘Captain America 2? disc will be available in a 3D Blu-ray combo pack (which includes a copy of the movie on 3-D Blu-ray, a regular Blu-ray disc and a digital copy of the film that you can download via iTunes), standard Blu-ray and single-disc DVD.
As is par for the course for the Marvel DVDs, there will be a ton of special features, including making-of featurettes, an audio commentary with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, deleted scenes, bloopers, and much more.
UPDATE: Sorry, Marvel fans. EW reports that there will be no Marvel One-Shot short film on the ‘Captain America 2? DVD and Blu-ray releases. A surprising move to say the least, as the last few release have scene ‘All Hail the King’ (on ‘Thor: The Dark World’), ‘Agent Carter’ (on ‘Iron Man 3?) and ‘Item 47? (on ‘The Avengers’). No word yet on whether this means Marvel will discontinue them altogether or are simply waiting for the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ DVD, Blu-ray release.
Edit: The UK will be getting Captain America 2 on Steelbook/Blu-Ray & DVD on August 18, 2014 and online download from August 11th.
