In an effort to raise its socially conscious voice to the already loud socially active part of its environment, YouTube has launched a campaign with the lofty “Millennium Development Goal” of “cutting global poverty in half by 2015.”
The campaign, “In my name,” unites the online destination with Global Call to Action Against Poverty, Oxfam International, Save the Children and Comic Relief to help spread the message that poverty around the world needs to be eliminated.
To get out the word, YouTube last week unveiled a dedicated micro-site, YouTube.com/inmyname, where visitors can upload videos stating their name, home country and a message to their government about the need to meet the poverty goals. Among the celebs who already have put videos on the site are Mischa Barton, Ellie McPherson, Kristin Davis, Annie Lennox, Scarlett Johansson, John Legend, Wyclef Jean and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas.
I have been playing catch up with the gallery these past few days, adding new The Spirit posters (none of Scarlett, unfortunately), movie stills, photoshoot and event pictures and scanning magazines. I still have a couple of things to add before my ‘pending’ Scarlett folder is empty. Please register/log in and click here to take full advantage of the gallery. I wish to say special thanks to all of our contributors for their valuable help.
Also, I wanted to take a moment to promote my new site for Australian actress Teresa Palmer. She is known from her work in December Boys, 2:37 and Restraint, among others. Teresa also stars in the upcoming Bedtime Stories. Hop on over to www.teresapalmerfan.com to learn more about this rising star!

Miss Scarlett looks adorable on the cover of the November 2008 issue of CosmoGirl. Thanks to my friend Mycah for the heads up! We will have scans of the magazine soon.
On what it’s like talking to college students about the election during the primaries:
It was amazing that these kids are just so well-informed and so interested. There were really obscure questions and debates that they wanted to lead — I couldn’t believe it! And it was amazing how many of these kids turned out. We made the environment friendly. I’m 23, and all of these kids are probably between 16 to 24. They’re my peers, so we can all talk on the same wavelength. We’re all connected by the same issues.
On celebrity endorsements during presidential elections:
In this day and age, the media has this 24-hour news cycle that they need to fulfill their obligation to. And it seems like celebrities are a huge part of that, so it just seems unavoidable. It’s important to bring to light certain issues. If this spotlight is already shining on me and I feel like there’s a worthwhile cause, then why not direct it toward that? I hope that my [involvement] encourages the youth population to go out and inform themselves.
This post is a bit off-topic but I figured some of you may be interested. As you may know, Scarlett’s older sister Vanessa Johansson is also an actress. One of her upcoming movies is Sharks in Venice, which will be available in the US on January 27, 2009. Here is the synosis and trailer of the movie.
Traveling to Venice to investigate the mysterious death of his father, David, a famous archaeologist and diver, unearths a killer secret that lies beneath the Venetian waters. When a ruthless mob boss discovers his findings and kidnaps his girlfriend, David must brave the dangerous, shark-infested waters once again to recover the treasure and rescue his girlfriend. A dark and mysterious chase ensues and secrets are revealed in this sci-fi thriller.
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynold’s Canadian wedding location wasn’t just to paparazzi-proof their nuptials last weekend, but to allow the couple and their guests to enjoy the great outdoors on Vancouver Island, People reports in its latest issue, on sale Friday.
Even the groom, 31, took advantage of the setting – fishing for salmon and halibut while other guests went horseback riding and mountain biking on the grounds of the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, a luxurious outpost of 20 canvas tents that caters to nature lovers.
“Scarlett wanted a ceremony with just family and a few select friends,” says a source close to the 23-year-old bride. Less than 40 people attended the wedding – but those who didn’t make the cut shouldn’t feel left out.
According to a friend, plans are afoot to throw a larger celebration for the couple, who began dating in April 2007 before announcing their engagement in May.
Congratulations to Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds who got married this weekend with a quiet wedding in Canada. From People.com:
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds made it official with a quiet wedding this weekend, a source close to the couple tells People.
This is the first marriage for both. The couple had announced their engagement in May.
Johansson, 23, began dating Reynolds, 31, last year shortly after his split from singer Alanis Morissette, who recently expressed well wishes on her ex’s engagement.
Further details from UsMagazine.com:
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are now husband and wife her rep has confirmed to Us.
The wedding took place Saturday evening at a remote wilderness resort outside Vancouver. Guests included Scarlett’s mother, Melanie Sloan, and her brother, Adrian Johansson.
Feel free to leave your congratulations to the happy couple in the comments section.
A new trailer has been released for The Spirit and it includes some new Scarlett scenes. It can be viewed in glorious HD over at Moviefone. I have added captures in the gallery.
– The Spirit: Trailer #2
I’ve added more of Cassie‘s Scarlett scans, this time ones from 2005. Scarlett was promoting films like The Island and Match Point that year and was quite literally everywhere! Mariana also contributed scans of the August 2008 issue of Brazilian magazine Gloss with none other than Miss J on the cover.
Scarlett Johansson is involved in two new, important campaigns.
Scarlett and The Spirit co-star Eva Mendes will be featured in a series of PSAs to encourage cell phone recycling. The celebrity pair are building awareness for this cause in hopes of lowering CO2 emissions by limiting the energy needed to create new phones.
Environmental Media Association and Lionsgate teamed up for the cell phone recycling campaign in conjunction with the December 25th release The Spirit, which stars both Scarlett and Eva.
To learn how you can recycle your cell phone, please visit Answer-the-Call.net.
Scarlett is also part of In My Name, a project of the Global Call for Action Against Poverty, delivered with the support of Comic Relief, Oxfam International and Save the Children. Other celebs who collaborate in this cause are Wyclef Jean, Annie Lennox, Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Mischa Barton and many others. Please visit InMyName.com for further details.
It never gets tiring to report on Scarlett’s involvement in all of these amazing campaigns. It is things like these that make me proud to be a fan.
