“Tonight, I look in the mirror and I think, ‘Oh I look glamorous,’ ” Scarlett Johansson said. “But I also wake up at 5:30 to go to work everyday. At that time, I’m just like, ‘Oh man I hope that the hair and makeup people show up today because this isn’t going to work.’ ”

As she strode down the red carpet in a black strapless Louis Vuitton dress, Scarlett Johansson was the very definition of old Hollywood glamour on Monday night at Elle magazine’s Women In Hollywood celebration.

And perhaps it’s fitting that Scarlett’s style has often garnered comparisons to the starlets of generations past, as some have even compared her to Hollywood’s most notable female icon.

“You have been called the modern day Marilyn Monroe,” Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson told Scarlett on the red carpet. “That’s such a title. When you think about that, how do you feel?”

“Well I’m a huge fan of Marilyn,” Scarlett said. “She was always so glamorous and hopefully, it’s not the tragedy that reminds everybody. Certainly, she had an incredible sort of seamless sexiness and grace that was just divine.”

Miss Johansson attended Elle magazine’s 14th Annual Women in Hollywood party held at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills Hotel yesterday.

Scarlett was one of the women who was toasted for making their mark in the film industry. Diane Lane, Amy Adams, Jennifer Connelly, Kate Bosworth, Julie Taymor and Lauren Bacall were the other six actresses honored.

Here’s a little tidbit from USA Today:

Johansson, 22, was thrilled for the opportunity to catch up with Bacall. “I had to let her know I just got her biography, and I’m about to start reading it.” On her way out, Johansson caught up with Jennifer Beals to make plans to get together for a game night.

Jennifer Connelly is currently filming He’s Just Not That Into You alongside Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson. Being a part of such an ensemble of high-profile actress is exhilarating, Connelly said.

“There are boys in it, too, but I’m really excited,” Connelly said. “It’s really fun for me because it’s a comedy. I’ve played more wives and girlfriends and I was particularly excited about all the women in the film.”

He’s Just Not That Into You, which also stars Bradley Cooper and Justin Long, has a scheduled release date for Aug. 1, 2008.
