Summit Entertainment and Imagi Studios announced today that the long wait for a CG animated take on Osamu Tezuka classic Japanese manga and anime character Astro Boy will soon be over, as Summit plans to release the movie nationwide on October 23, 2009.
Directed by David Boyers, the film features the voice of Freddie Highmore as the title character with other voices provided by Scarlett Johansson, Nicolas Cage, Kristin Bell, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane and more. The last animated feature film from Imagi Studios was TMNT, the most recent take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I am back from my travels and ready to get back into action. To start with I’ve scanned the Autumn/Winter 2008 issue of Another Magazine with Scarlett Johansson on the cover. The photoshoot is really gorgeous and the article one of my favorites to date. I hope you’ll like the scans!
Please take into consideration that the magazine is massive and an expensive one, and it took me hours to scan. I would prefer to not see the scans reposted on any other site without permission and a courteous credit. Thank you.

Scarlett Johansson, actress and activist returns this week from her first trip to Rwanda with (RED), the initiative to engage business and consumer power in the fight against AIDS in Africa. During her four day stay, the actress visited projects and people who benefit from the flow of (RED) funds via the Global Fund into Rwanda to help tackle the AIDS and HIV pandemic there. Scarlett has supported (RED) since its launch in 2006.
“It was important for me to come here and understand the issue we’re up against firsthand. It’s not until you’ve had the privilege of meeting healthcare providers who are fighting the daily battle, heard from people who are now getting antiretroviral drugs to stay alive, and met mothers whose babies are born healthy because they received treatment that stopped transmission of HIV, that you understand that we absolutely can do something to reverse the AIDS crisis in African countries.” commented Scarlett. “I came here with an open mind, wanting to listen, understand and learn; I leave with the overwhelming understanding that the small action of making a (RED) choice in your purchases in the West has an enormous impact on the lives of people in countries like Rwanda.”
The results of such projects are evident in the statistics – 5% of Rwanda’s 9 million population was HIV positive in 2003, and in 2007 this rate is down to 3%*.
It has been over 2 years since (RED) funds began flowing into Global Fund projects in Rwanda, with over $22 million into the country so far. The power of (RED) consumer action has helped provide antiretroviral therapy for HIV and AIDS to over 17,000 patients, and reached over 408,000 pregnant women with counseling and services to reduce the risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
A quick update from me…
It appears that Scarlett did not attend the MTV Video Music Awards nor the Toronto International Film Festival. However, she did appear briefly at the Stand Up to Cancer telethon together with Josh Brolin. I have added screencaps and a MQ sized image from the event. A video clip will be up once I’m properly back online.
Stand Up to Cancer is a groundbreaking movement backed by an innovative approach to cancer research aimed at ending cancer’s reign as a leading cause of death. We have the best and brightest minds on board, and are on the verge of unlocking the door in prevention, detection, treatment and even reversal of this national epidemic.
View the Stand Up to Cancer website to donate and for further information about this cause.
Scarlett is also on the covers of the autumn/winter issue of Another Magazine and assumably past weekend’s Telegraph Magazine. Again, I shall scan both magazines once I return to the UK.
I wanted to let all of our loyal visitors know that the site will likely not be updated a whole lot this month. I am going to be traveling and then returning to university late this month. If the hiatus will last longer than a month, I will be sure to update on it again. But rest assured, I will update as soon as I can. Meanwhile, our forum is the top place to go for all the latest on SJ.
Before going, I did manage to update the gallery with various scans, including those of various editions of Cosmo, the poster for He’s Just Not That Into You and some photoshoot outtakes. Please click here to view all.
Thanks so much to rope, Via, Domi, Lindsey, Roberto, DoubleT and Andra for making this update possible!
See you soon!
Vicky Cristina Barcelona is hanging on to the #10 spot at the US box office on its third weekend on August 29–31, 2008. It grossed $3,003,000 and the total is currently $12,787,000.

Head on over to YouTube to view the New York, I Love You trailer. Scarlett has, of course, written and directed one of its 12 segments and you can see a couple of frames of Kevin Bacon here, the star of her segment. I think the trailer looks really cool and I cannot wait to see Scarlett’s directorial debut!
MTV revealed today that Scarlett will present at the the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, which will air live on September 7, 2008 at 9 p.m ET.
Speaking of public events, Scarlett will not attend the September 19 Vicky Cristina Barcelona premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, unlike previously mentioned. She will not be promoting the movie in Europe. I believe she is still expected to appear on the Stand Up To Cancer telethon on September 5. And then New York, I Love You will premiere in Toronto on September 6. I am not sure if she will attend the premiere.
